Sex, Android and Tinder: An Interview with the Creator of Cuddlr

An Interview with the Creator of Cuddlr

An Interview with the Creator of Cuddlr

There comes a time in everyone’s life where all they need is a simple hug. While most people might prefer getting a hug from someone they actually know, a new app on the iOS app store is making it easier to get hugs from people you probably don’t know who are close to your location.

The app’s name is Cuddlr. To sum it up quickly, Cuddlr is a location-based social-meeting app for cuddling. The app made by Charlie Williams currently has two stars on the App Store. As you can imagine, you must be at least 17 years old to download this app as it contains “Infrequent/Mild Sexual Content and Nudity.”

Curious about the nature of the app, we here at Tech Analyzer reached out to Charlie Williams to have a few questions answered. Check out the entire interview below.

1. Do you have a rough time frame for an Android release?

At the moment, we are focusing 100% on the iOS launch and follow up support, along with bug fixes. Once that [stabilizes], we will turn our [energy] to developing the Android version. We won’t be putting it out before early 2015, though.

2. What was your inspiration for the app?

We don’t have a space for this in our culture. There’s dating; there’s hooking up, there’s being in a relationship… but there’s not a way to have physical affection that isn’t tied to sex. I think there should be. Not with any random person on the street, but perhaps with some carefully selected random people? Definitely.

2B. Did it have anything to do with Tinder?

The name follows from the Tinder / Grindr/ Fiverr pattern that’s all over the app space lately. It’s short and tells you exactly what the app’s for, so we went with it. Also, it makes people laugh, and that’s generally good, right?

3. How likely do you think people will follow through with the app?

Tons of people are using it! Some of them might be setting up ‘test’ cuddles with friends, but there is a lot of activity and people are starting to gain reputation points. I am hoping that the people who are really interested in cuddling (rather than trying out an app once) find us and stick with us as we continue to improve the app over the coming weeks.

4. Who is your target audience?

Anyone who wants a cuddle. Some of the press we’ve had so far seems to assume that if you’re on this app, you are not interested in sex. I’d assume that many of the people using this app have it on their phones right next to Tinder or Grindr— if you want a hookup, use a hookup app. If you just want a cuddle, use Cuddlr.

Don’t have Cuddlr yet? Check it out at the App Store. What’s your experience with Cuddlr like so far?
